GILSDORF: RUNNING FOR NEW CASTLE COUNTY COUNCIL

Posted: Sept. 16, 2005

Rob Gilsdorf, a former Delaware State Board of Education member and past vice president of the Appoqinimink School Board, today announced his candidacy for the 6th District New Castle County Council seat in the 2006 election.

Gilsdorf, a DuPont manager for 24 years with an extensive financial background, outlined a platform of initiatives, focusing on quality of life issues for constituents in the 6th District. Gilsdorf said that while the 6th District has changed a great deal in the last three years due to significant growth in the area, several outstanding issues – including land use management, community infrastructure and available parkland – have not been adequately addressed and need to be priorities.

"I have talked with people all across this district and I have been encouraged by their support,” Gilsdorf said. “People from Bear to Middletown and Townsend have asked me to represent them and serve on the County Council. Their message has been loud and clear: This district needs to address quality of life issues now, before it is too late.”

A native Delawarean, Gilsdorf, 45, is a University of Delaware graduate with a bachelor of science in accounting and finance. Gilsdorf lives in Middletown with his wife and two children. He is a longtime community, civic and education leader, serving in a variety of public roles – including the Delaware State Board of Education from 2001 to 2003 and the Appoquinimink School Board from 1998 to 2001.

"I have worked with Rob on a number of public issues in my role as state representative,” said state Rep. Dick Cathcart. “Rob brings unprecedented experience from both his public and business leadership positions. More importantly, Rob’s passion and commitment in assisting others and his will to serve is unmatched. He will serve the people of the 6th District well.”
