NEWS RELEASECASTLE: KENT JORDAN NOMINATED AS APPELLATE JUDGEPosted: June 28, 2006 As expected, the White House today transmitted the nomination of U.S. District Court Judge Kent A. Jordan of Delaware to the U.S. Senate for confirmation as the next judge on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. U.S. Rep. Michael N. Castle, the only Republican in the state’s three-member congressional nomination, announced the decision from the Republican Bush administration and released the following statement: "Kent Jordan has served Delaware well as the U.S. District Court judge since 2002, and I am confident he will make an outstanding judge on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Kent has a unique background in clerking, prosecution, litigation, bankruptcy and business law that has provided him with the necessary in-court experience to enhance Delaware's top-notch judicial system. It is my hope the U.S. Senate will approve his nomination swiftly," Castle said. Castle will cooperate with U.S. Sens. Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Thomas R. Carper, both Democrats, to guide Jordan through the nomination process, as the congressional delegation did when he was nominated to be a U.S. District Court judge. The next step is a hearing and vote by the Senate Judiciary Committee, followed by consideration by the full U.S. Senate. If confirmed, Jordan will replace Judge Jane R. Roth, who retired in May. ### |
