NEWS RELEASECARNEY & BONINI: LT. GOV. CHALLENGE FOR "POUNDS FOR HOUNDS"Posted: Feb. 1, 2005 State Sen. Colin Bonini joined Lt. Gov. John C. Carney Jr. at the Kent County SPCA in Camden on Tuesday to kick off a “Pounds for Hounds” fund-raiser. In an effort to help the Dover Republican senator get started on his weight-loss program, the Democratic lieutenant governor enrolled him in the “Lt. Governor’s Challenge” physical activity program. Bonini has pledged to lose as much weight as he can from Feb. 1 through the end of the legislative session on June 30. Bonini is asking the public to sponsor him in his efforts to lose weight and give to a worthy cause: the Kent County SPCA. He is hoping the “Lt. Governor’s Challenge” will provide added incentive in getting fit. “John is a good friend and I know he cares about the health of all Delawareans, so I’m thankful he is sponsoring me and will help me help the SPCA,” Bonini said. “Plus, I needed a thin guy around to help inspire me! Let’s face it, I’ve got to lose some serious weight and I think helping a great organization such as the SPCA will give me the motivation to finally take off some pounds.” The challenge, which Carney started more than two years ago, has had more than 17,000 people sign up, including participants from corporate, faith-based and senior organizations. Participants accumulate points by completing any of a wide variety of daily activities. After three months, participants are awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their progress. ### |
