NEWS RELEASEMINNER: FLAGS TO BE LOWERED FOR ED BENNETTPosted: Dec. 19, 2007 Gov. Ruth Ann Minner ordered the Delaware and U.S. flags to be lowered in recognition of the public service of former state Rep. Edward J. Bennett, a Dover Democrat who died Monday at the age of 70. Minner, a two-term Democrat, said flags will remain at half-staff until after Bennett’s funeral on Friday. Bennett, who served in the state House of Representatives from 1976 to 1994, was a chairman of the Joint Finance Committee. He was the owner of Bennett Security Service, the family business. “It is a sad day for Kent County and all of Delaware as we remember Ed Bennett and his service to our community,” Minner said. “Ed was the consummate businessman, and he brought that perspective and experience to state government. I had the honor of serving with Ed in the General Assembly, and my best memories are of his work on the Joint Finance Committee, where he served in good times and in bad, but he always put the needs of our state ahead of all else.” ### |
