NEWS RELEASECHAPMAN: RUNNING FOR THE 39TH REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICTPosted: Nov. 17, 2005 Democrat Tom Chapman filed Monday in Dover with the Elections Department to begin his 2006 campaign for the 39th Representative District seat, which is being vacated by retiring Rep. Tina Fallon, a Republican. Chapman, a teacher, praised Fallon for her long service to both Delaware and education, yet he noted Seaford requires a new brand of leadership in the General Assembly. “Throughout Mrs. Fallon’s tenure in Dover, Seaford was a steady factory town, yet the city, its surrounding areas, and its people have changed. The demands placed on a state representative have also changed. Our area is competitive for limited state assistance with other growing communities. The 39th District must have a stronger voice in Dover and not be a safe vote for larger interests,” Chapman said. “Seaford needs a representative who will be concerned with safe development, a high quality of life for all, and good services, such as quality roads and schools. I want to make these goals happen for western Sussex, now and in the future,” he added. Chapman ran against Fallon as a political newcomer in 2004. Although unsuccessful, Chapman’s “out of nowhere” campaign polled a strong 42 percent of the vote, making an impact on independent and Republican voters, as well as his Democratic base. Chapman will make a formal public announcement on Saturday, Dec. 3, prior to the Seaford Christmas Parade. ### |
