The Delaware bench and bar are buzzing about
the names on the lists that Gov. Ruth Ann Minner has for openings
for a Supreme Court justice and Family Court chief judge. There are
said to be three candidates to replace Justice Joseph T. Walsh and
four for former Chief Judge Vincent J. Poppiti.

Terry A. Strine, a Republican backbencher, is
ready to ride to the rescue of his party and become the state
chairman. The Delaware GOP found itself with a leadership gap after
J. Everett Moore Jr. unexpectedly stepped aside with no clear
replacement. Strine discussed his interest publicly for the first

someone to replace Keller Hopkins, who is resigning as their
chairman before his term is up to concentrate on his construction
company. Hopkins made his mark by setting up the most effective
get-out-the-vote drive in Delaware on Election Day 2002.

Delaware politics has turned into something
that sounds like Dr. Seuss. Political maps in presidential elections
are drawn with Democratic states in blue and Republican states in
red, and here in Delaware, upstate is voting blue and downstate is
voting red.

Senate vote that put a bunch of Republicans on the same side as
