IN AND OUT IN DOVER

By Celia Cohen
Grapevine Political Writer

Meet the new legislature. Not the same as the old legislature.

The Democratic majority held in both chambers of the Delaware General Assembly, but not much else. Fifteen districts changed hands. That means roughly a quarter of the 62 legislative seats have new occupants.

Not to mention what happened to the leadership. Speaker Bob Gilligan? Retired. Senate President Pro Tem Tony DeLuca? Dumped in a primary. Senate Minority Whip Liane Sorenson? Retired. The entire House minority leadership? Moving to the Senate.

The new leadership will have to be sorted out by the new membership.

The old Senate: 14-7 Democratic. The new Senate: 13-8 Democratic.

The old House of Representatives: 26-15 Democratic. The new House: 27-14 Democratic.

Here is how it happened.
