LEE: STABLER IS
CAMPAIGN CHAIRMAN
WILMINGTON -- Former
Superior Court Judge William Swain Lee announced today that he is
naming W. Laird Stabler Jr. as campaign chairman for his 2004 run
for Delaware governor.
Stabler, who has served as
Delaware’s Republican National Committeeman since 1985, will remain
in that post. Stabler has also served as Majority Leader in the
Delaware House of Representatives, as Delaware’s Attorney General
and U.S. Attorney for the State of Delaware.
In making the announcement
Lee said, “Laird brings immeasurable, leadership, unity, and
perspective to my campaign. He is an institution within the
Republican Party and in Delaware, and I am honored to have a person
of such stature and prominence leading my campaign. ”
In accepting the position
Stabler said, “Bill Lee has the vision to lead the State of Delaware
through good times and tough times. He will be decisive and
proactive when it comes to dealing with the challenges that face all
of Delaware. Many Delawareans feel that kind of leadership is
lacking in the current administration.”
Stabler said that the
campaign would waste no time raising money. One of its first
priorities will be to set up a finance committee, which will be up
and running in early 2003. “I look forward to running an
old-fashioned campaign,” Stabler added. “One in which everyone rolls
up their sleeves, works hard, and gets the job done.”
Reacting to Lee’s
announcement, Republican Party Chairman Everett Moore said, “Bill
could not have chosen a better-qualified and respected person to
lead his campaign than Laird Stabler.”
Lee served as a Family Court
and Superior Court judge in Delaware for 22 years. He is perhaps
best known for presiding over the Tom Capano murder trial.
