SUSSEX GOP: SEARCH IS ON FOR CHAIRMAN

GEORGETOWN – The Sussex County Republican Committee has formed a search committee to identify a nominee to replace departing chairman, R. Keller Hopkins of Bridgeville, who will resign following the Republican State Convention on May 17.  Hopkins, who was elected chairman in 2001, told the committee that he is stepping away to turn his full attention to his construction business.  In the interim, leadership of the Committee will be assumed by the Vice Chair, Phyllis Byrne of Lewes.

At the first meeting on April 24, the search committee elected State Senator F. Gary Simpson of Milford as its chair.  Other members are:  Lauren Alberti of Bethany Beach, Phyllis Byrne of Lewes, Tom Draper of Rehoboth Beach, Kia Evans of Milton, Cindy Green of Greenwood, Reverend Leslie James of Seaford, Judge Bill Lee of Rehoboth, George Parish of Long Neck, County Councilman Vance Phillips of Laurel, and Mayor Dan Short of Seaford.

“We have gathered a diverse group of Sussex Republicans who essentially represent all areas of the county,” said Senator Simpson.  “But, we would still like to hear from any registered Republican in the county who wishes to suggest a prospective chairman,” he added.  “Suggestions may be made to the committee person in your area or by calling Sussex Republican Headquarters in Georgetown at 856-6323.”

The search committee will meet at least weekly until it is prepared to submit its recommendations to the Executive Committee.
