MARKELL:
DEMOCRATIC CONVERSATION COMING
For his record of delivering
and implementing innovative ideas in state government, the
Democratic Leadership Council and Progressive Policy Institute asked
Delaware’s State Treasurer Jack Markell to join Pennsylvania
Governor Ed Rendell and DLC founder Al From on
Friday, June 6, to
announce plans for the DLC's 2003 National Conversation.
Well-known and up-and-coming
leaders from around the country will attend the National
Conversation, the premier gathering of New Democrat elected
officials, in Philadelphia on July 27 and 28.
“Hundreds of elected
officials and policy leaders will have an honest and open dialog
about how to deliver a quality education, encourage economic growth
and keep our states, cities and nation on sound financial footing,”
Markell said. “We will share what is working best throughout the
nation and identify upcoming challenges. By the end, we should have
a number of new policy proposals that reflect our common values of
opportunity, responsibility and community.”
The DLC recently named
Markell one of its “100 to Watch” among national Democrats. His work
on financial literacy and saving Delaware millions through leveraged
purchasing power were both celebrated as “Ideas of the Week.”
