MINNER: SCHOELL NAMED LEGAL COUNSEL

Posted: Nov. 6, 2003

DOVER -- Governor Ruth Ann Minner announced Friday her selection of Joseph Schoell as her new legal counsel. Schoell has served as deputy counsel to the Governor since February 2001.

Schoell, 36, of Wilmington, previously was a partner with the Wilmington firm of Morris, James, Hitchens and Williams LLP, where he had focused on commercial and corporate litigation since 1992. He holds a law degree from Yale Law School and a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of Delaware, where he was given an award for outstanding senior male student in 1988. He graduated from Wilmington High School.

“I am very pleased to have Joe step up to take this new responsibility with me,” Gov. Minner said. “I have been impressed by his legal skills and his judgment over the past three years and look forward to continuing to have his advice and counsel.”

"It is truly a privilege to have the opportunity to serve as the Governor’s legal counsel,” Schoell said. “I am grateful for her confidence and look forward to continuing to work with the Governor and her administration.”

Schoell replaces Matthew Denn, who leaves the Governor’s office Friday to return to private practice and pursue elected office. Gov. Minner has not selected a new deputy counsel.
