NEWS RELEASE
STATE DEMOCRATS: REPUBLICANS
ARE HYPOCRITICAL
Posted: March 5, 2004
Delaware Democrats are
considering sending a CD of Alanis Morrisette's single "Isn't it
Ironic" to state Republicans following their behavior Friday.
The state GOP issued a
press release Friday criticizing the Minner campaign for encouraging
supporters to call in to radio station WGMD in Sussex County when
Governor Minner was scheduled to be on. Callers and hosts on WGMD,
which broadcasts Rush Limbaugh in the afternoons, have been highly
critical of the Governor for three years, but the Governor has
repeatedly appeared on the station in attempts to discuss state
government issues.
The hypocritical GOP
blast against the Minner campaign comes two weeks after radio
station WDEL in Wilmington revealed that a caller referring to
himself as "John from
Wilmington"
was, in fact, state Republican Party communications director
Ken Grant. On Feb. 19, Grant was attempting to question a member of
Governor Minner's official staff during a discussion on "The Rick
Jensen Show" of the Governor's economic development initiative.
"Isn't it ironic that
the Republicans stack radio phone lines with their own paid staff
and then complain when a campaign lets its grassroots supporters
know when its candidate is going to be on," Delaware Democratic
Party Executive Director Nicole Majeski said. "Democrats are not
going to allow repeated Republican ambushes on the radio to
continue."
